Abstract
480,560. Electric resistance heading. ROUX, G. H. C. April 24, 1937, No. 11806. Convention date, May 12, 193. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electrical heat generating and storage unit comprising a metal tube 1a, 1b, insulated on its inside surface by enamel or a refractory bushing 7 and filled with an electrically conducting solid refractory mineral 8 such as carbon, or magnetite in powder or fused form, the unit being closed by electrodes 9a, 9b, the thickness of the metal tube is so great, for example, about onethird to one-half of its internal diameter, that it contributes the major part of the heat storage capacity. The metal tube is preferably cast iron and is built up from two flanged parts 1a, 1b, held together by clamping rings 3a, 3b and appropriate bolts and nuts. Plastic electrical insulation, such as asbestos, is interposed between the tube parts and the clamping rings. A number of units may be provided in a heat insulated enclosure having gratings with shelters to control the flow of air over the units. Specification 436,676 is referred to.
