224,749. Goodman, H., and Hancock & Co. (Engineers), Ltd. Dec. 27, 1923. Resistance grids.-An electric heater comprises a metal casing 5 containing a series of carbon rods 1 the ends of which are cemented within cavities in graphite or other blocks 2 separated by insulating plates 3 of mica or similar material, the remaining space 4 being filled with a refractory insulator such as carborundum. A mica or other insulating cylinder 8 is provided between the two circular sets of rods. When there is only one set of rods the interior may be hollow, a second interior, concentric metal casing being provided. The rods may also be arranged in one plane so that a flat casing is formed.
