Abstract
108,644. Smith, F., and Whiteley, W. March 2, 1917. Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.-The opening and closing of the throttle raises and lowers a disk L and its rod K, and the movement of the disk in the shaped part of the induction pipe V controls the fuel valve B and the supplementary-air valve M; also, the variation of the aperture W controls the rate of flow of the mixture of fuel from the valve B and primary air from the port Y through the exhaust heater S and into the induction pipe V. The flow of hydrocarbon through the needle valve is regulated according to whether petrol, paraffin oil, petrol substitutes, or other hydrocarbons are used, by raising and lowering the jet H which for the purpose is screwed in its seating and carries a disk J. When the throttle valve is closed, the rod K falls, and a shoulder B<1> thereon rests on its seating B<2> and closes the fuel orifice.
