Abstract

1,083,885. Damping-apparatus. ADDRESSOGRAPH MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. Oct. 16, 1964 [Feb. 5, 1964], No. 42383/64. Headings B6B and B6C. Apparatus suitable for damping or predamping a printing plate comprises a roller 62 partially immersed in a pre-damping or moistening solution 70 in a fountain 72, and a roller 64 mounted above the roller 62 and provided with an absorbent cover 74 of molleton cloth &c., said rollers co-operating to form therebetween a bead of liquid which is bisected on forwarding the master sheet into two parts B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>11</SP>. The roller 62 may be of aluminium or rubber and the roller 64 may alternatively be of metal or natural or synthetic rubber. The roller 64 is eccentrically mounted on its shaft 68, Fig. 3 (not shown), so that it may be tripped on rotation of a handle 84. Feeding sheets.-The lowermost plate 24 is fed from a weighted stack on a feed table 22 by means of a feed roller mounted on a shaft 98 and driven through a single-revolution clutch 96. The plate passes beneath the lower edge 38a of a member 38 and beneath a deflecting device 42 on to a guide plate 100. Co-operating rollers 44, 46 feed the plate to a table 102 from which it passes through the pre-damping device and on to a table 104, the roller 44 being supported by a pair of pivoted links 52 which are adjustable in position by means of threaded pins 58.
