Abstract

545,119. Printing - machines ; roll holders. BESENER, W. July 21, 1939, No. 21218. Convention date, July 22, 1938. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] An apparatus for printing and moistening or gumming paper strips is constructed of a casing comprising a lower part 1 and an upper part 2, the paper roll 5 being mounted in the part 1 which also supports an impression roller 6 and a wooden gumming or moistening roller 10 dipping in a container 11. In the upper part 2 are arranged (1) an adjustable lateral strip guide formed of a roller 12 fitted with four guides 13 of various widths either of which can be brought into the operative position, (2) a printing roller 16 with inking roller 15, (3) a manually operable cutter 17 with an operating- handle 21 normally raised by a spring, and (4) a loading roller 25 which presses the printed web upon the roller 10. A guide 24 below the knife 17 prevents the formation of folds as the strip is fed by the printing-rollers. The printing-roller may be driven by an electric motor fixed to the bottom of the casing 1. A counterpressing member e.g. a spring-pressed ball 9 is arranged below the roller 6. The printing-roller is made of rubber and is formed with lateral feeding projections which do not receive ink.
