A burner for heat treatment of billets, bars &c. has a body 2 with communicating coaxial zones 3, 4, an axial port 9 for the admission of fuel, normally gas, although oil may be used, and a jacket 11 defining an air supply manifold 12 which delivers a first supply of air through openings 14, a second supply of air through openings 15 and a third supply through inwardly directed openings 16, a pilot duct being provided at 17.
