Abstract

1,070,166. Rolling. T. SENDZIMIR. July 10, 1964 [July 10, 1963], No. 28527/64. Heading B3M. An arrangement for resisting separating forces, such as those involved in a rolling mill, includes a pair of rigid backing structures, each of which is backed by a parallel structure of lesser rigidity, at least one pressure element beng positioned between each backing structure and parallel structure to oppose the separating forces. A housing 1, having integral beams 2-5 defining an aperture 6 in which, for example, a workpiece can be rolled, is deflectable under a rolling load and is backed by further structures 9 and 10 in the form of beams. The beams carry hydraulic cylinders 13, 13a- 13e, 14 and 14a-14e which act to oppose the outward deflection of the structure 1 during rolling. The cylinders are manually or automatically controlled in response to the outputs of pressure gauges 22 and 23 which are situated between bores 16 and 17 in the structure 1 and rods 19 and 20. In a further embodiment, beams (82) and (83), Fig. 3 (not shown), are attached to the upper and lower portions of the framework, either fluid pressure or screws being used to urge the beams and framework away from one another.
