Abstract

1,049,796. Rolling. SOCIETE NOUVELLE SPIDEM. Feb. 7, 1964 [Feb. 11, 1963], No. 5338/64. Heading B3M. The lower roll chocks and hence the lower roll 4 of a stand 1, 1<SP>1</SP> are hydraulically adjusted by jacks 6 and 6<SP>1</SP> by means of cylinders 7 whose plungers are operated by motors 9 and 9<SP>1</SP> through gearing 8 and 8<SP>1</SP>. The pressure in line 11 is measured by a meter 22 and a corresponding electrical signal is sent to a controller 21. Here the signal is compared with one indicating the positions of equalizing pistons 13 and 13<SP>1</SP>, which again depend on the pressure in lines 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, and any difference is fed to a solenoid valve 15 which controls the position of a piston 14a and hence the pistons 13 and 13<SP>1</SP>. Thus any elastic deformation of the stand is compensated for when rolling a product.
