Abstract
1,068,184. Travelling cranes. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. May 1, 1964 [May 3, 1963], No. 18099/64. Heading B8B. A travelling crane has a boom framework comprising a tubular upper member 1, Fig. 1, and a lower member 2 forming a trackway for the hoisting device 54. Extensions 64 at the ends of the boom 1 are welded to support members 5 comprising parallel spaced beams adapted to receive driving and idler rollers (10), (11), Fig. 2 (not shown), running on fixed trackways 17. The end joints may be reinforced by welded gussets 13, 13a. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the upper tubular-member (31) is separated from the lower beam but is welded thereto by vertical gussets (31), end sections (36) of the tubular member being inclined downwards for welded connection to the lower beam (32) and to the wheeled support members (5).
