Abstract
1,028,589. Girders for overhead travelling cranes. G. L. F. SELAM. Jan. 15, 1964 [Jan. 17, 1963], No. 1750/64. Heading B8B. The girders 1, 2, Fig. 2, which support the crab of an overhead travelling crane each have a vertical web extending between upper and lower flanges which follows a zig-zag path when viewed in plan. Transverse stiffening gantries 5 connect the girders. Insulators 11, Fig. 3, for electrical supply cables are mounted on flat faces 9 of the web and brackets 13, which support a footbridge 16 with a hand rail 18, are mounted on alternate flat faces 9a. Figs. 5, 6, 7 show webs of alternate shapes. Reinforcing strips may be welded to the underside of the upper flange in contact with the faces 9, 9a. Alternatively the edges of the upper flange may be turned down and welded to the web which is suitably notched at faces 9, 9a.
