Abstract

Apparatus for continuously treating textile material, preferably dyeing sliver, comprises a vessel through which the material is carried by an induced flow of liquid. The vessel preferably comprises a U-tube there being a greater head of liquid in the inlet arm than in the outlet arm to maintain a pressure difference and thereby a flow of liquid through the vessel. In the preferred embodiment the material passes through a preliminary bath of exhausted liquid then through a bell-shaped opening to the inlet arm of the U-tube. The upper end of the bell-shaped opening is surrounded by a tank of treating liquid, the liquid overflowing ito the bell-shaped opening to lubricate the material. Subsequent to the bell-shaped opening the inlet arm of the U-tube is surrounded by a main tank of liquid which is fed to the U-tube by holes in the inlet arm. The material is conveyed through the vessel by the flow of liquid and passes to a wash bath and further treating apparatus. Liquid overflowing from the outlet arm may be cooled and passed to the preliminary bath. Liquid from the preliminary bath may be mixed with fresh liquid, heated and passed to the tanks feeding liquid to the inlet arm. Heating elements may be provided at intervals along the arms of the U-tube to maintain the treating liquid at the required temperature.
