Abstract
<PICT:0905178/IV (b)/1> <PICT:0905178/IV (b)/2> Apparatus for continuous heat treatment of continuous textile material with a pressurised gaseous heating medium comprises a horizontal cylindrical heat treating tank 1, means 10 for feeding the treating medium to the tank, an inlet drum 6 and an outlet drum 7 in communication with the tank, an endless conveyer 19 running in the tank, guide means 36 in the inlet drum for feeding the material on to the conveyer in a relaxed condition and labyrinth nozzle 16, 161 arranged above each drum and associated with a liquid receptacle 13, 23 to provide a pressure-tight entry and exit for the material to be treated. Textile material such as a continuous sliver 26 is fed into the tank through rolls 12, liquid receptacle 13, labyrinth nozzle 16 and feed rolls 17 and 18 (not shown) which are spring-pressed together and sprayed with water from nozzles 33, 331. The sliver 26 is guided by reciprocating guide 36 and dropped on to the conveyer 19 in a zig-zag fashion so as to be in a relaxed condition, and conveyed through the heating medium. The sliver is then taken up over guide rollers 20, 21 through labyrinth nozzle 161, water receptacle 23 and rollers 26. The tank 1 is supported at one end on fixed support 3 and at the other end on sliding support 4. Pressurised fluid such as steam is supplied to the interior of tank 1 from a main supply 10 through control valves 9 which are associated with thermostat devices 45 for controlling the temperature in the tank 1. The bottom of the tank is connected to steam traps 28, 281 through drain valves 27, 271. The condensate may be used to heat the water supplied to nozzles 33 (not shown) and 331. The liquid in each receptacle 13, 23 is heated by contact with the hot steam or gas in tank 1 and by conduction from the latter so that the material entering tank 1 is preheated. The throats of the labyrinth nozzles 16, 161 are adjustable so as to accommodate different sizes of material and the speed of conveyer 19 can be varied to vary the time the material is subjected to the heat treatment.
