Abstract

1,095,919. Washing eggs. C. J. JOHNSON. Aug. 17, 1966 [Aug. 19, 1965], No. 35528/65. Heading A1M. Egg treating apparatus, particularly for eggs for hatching, comprises an endless conveyer 9 which moves the eggs successively through a treatment tank 3 containing bactericidal or germicidal solution, a rinsing zone 4 and a drying zone 5. The treatment tank 3 is provided with immersion heaters 21 whereby the temperature of the treatment solution is maintained at about 90‹F. The rinsing zone 4 comprises a tank for rinsing liquid which is pumped by pump 25 to spray tubes 22 equipped with spray nozzles, the rinsing liquid being heated by one or more immersion heaters. Brush-like filaments 27 enclose the rinsing zone. The drying zone 5 comprises an open-topped cabinet containing electrical heating elements and a fan whereby a stream of hot air is directed on to the eggs which pass over the top of the cabinet. The conveyer 9 comprises three endless roller chains spaced transversely of the apparatus and interconnected by spaced steel rods 16. A plate 20 extends below the upper run of the conveyer. Pipes arranged to be heated by hot water or steam may replace the electrical heating means in the zones 3-5.
