Abstract

1,138,243. Textile treating apparatus. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 April, 1967 [18 April, 1966], No. 16904/66. Heading D1L. A process for treating open-width woven textile materials in continuous length by immersion in a boiling liquid is characterised in that the zone of ebullition of the liquid does not include the zones where the edges of the material pass around guides immersed in the liquid. The zone of ebullition is preferably positioned centrally of the material over 70% to 90% of the material width. It is desirable that the outermost 10% on each side of the material is clear of the zone of ebullition. The material may be wholly or partly of synthetic fibres e.g. polyester or polyamide and the treating liquid preferably trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene, trichlorotrifluoroethane or mixtures thereof. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a tank 1, material guides 2, and a heating element 8 within the tank, positioned so that the zone of ebullition does not include the zone where the edge of material passes around the guides. The heating element 8 may be an electric or steam heater element and may be positioned with a shield to reduce heat transfer to the liquid in the zone of the material edge, or it may be positioned transversely to the guide axis.
