Abstract

Textiles such as yarns, threads and tows are wet treated whilst supported in a tensionless condition by a pair of net conveyers 1 and 2 defining parallel, spaced horizontal runs 1' and 2'. The textile 4 is loaded on the run 1' either in a looped or curled state by device 3, or is loaded in a folded zig-zag state. The textile is subjected to wet heat treatment, typically at 160 DEG C, in a steamer 5 surrounding the runs 1' and 2' and fitted with continuous seal mechanisms 6 and 7. Dyestuff application nozzles 12 [Fig. 3] can impregnate the conveyed textile 4 prior to treatment in the steamer, and the curled or zig- zag state allows non-uniform impregnation, leading to textiles dyed with light and dark tones. <IMAGE>
