Abstract

1,066,933. Stacking-machines. CHICAGO DRYER CO. March 16, 1965 [March 27, 1964; Jan. 21, 1965], No. 11080/65. Heading B8C. [Also in Division D1] Stacking of twice-folded flatwork articles (see Division D1) is effected by feeding each article by narrow conveyer belts 125, 126, Fig. 7, on to stacking fingers 138, 140 or plates. The belts 126 are maintained in alignment by guide fingers 148, two of which straddle each belt. The fingers 138 are mounted on a bar 170 having collars 172 at the ends thereof to slide on fixed rods 174 and the fingers 140 are mounted on a bar 176 provided with collars 178 to slide on fixed rods 180. Each article slides over the fingers 138, 140 and the leading edge thereof strikes an actuator 182 of a switch 184 which energizes solenoid valves 186, 186a, Fig. 8 (not shown), to supply air to cylinders 190, 194 to slide the bars 170, 176 along the rods 174, 180 to move the fingers 138, 140 apart so as to let the article drop on to a conveyer 198. When the bar 170 actuates a switch 211 the valves 186, 186a are de-energized and the fingers 138, 140 return to the position of Fig. 7. An electric impulse counter 230 energizes a motor 220 after a predetermined number of electrical impulses have been imparted thereto by one of the solenoid valves in the folding apparatus, e.g. the valve 122 controlling admission of air into the tube 114, to move the conveyer 198. A stop plate 238, Fig. 8 (not shown), may be provided adjacent the actuator 182 to assist the positioning of each article prior to its dropping on to the conveyer 198.
