859,425. Folding fabrics. BROADBENT & SONS Ltd., T. June 15, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 19147/58. Class 42 (2). An automatic folding machine in which the operation of the folding mechanism is initiated by the passage of the article to be folded, has one or more additional sets of control mechanism, operated by the article when one or more of its dimensions are over a predetermined maximum, so as to prevent the operation of the folding mechanism. As shown, the folder comprises conveyer belts a and shorter belts b leading to a position in which revolving mangle rollers d are located. Above the nip of rollers d is a vertically-movable chopper e adapted to press an article between the rollers d which feed it to the transversely moving conveyer f. The movement of the chopper is controlled by switch arms g which are adapted to be engaged by the leading edge of the article to be folded. To prevent a jam occurring if an article to be folded is longer than the mangle rollers d a further set of switch arms h is provided and is so arranged that if the arms h are still engaging the article when it engages the switch arms g the actuation of the chopper e is prevented.
