Abstract

1,062,809. Cartons. FR. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK-A.G. June 22, 1965 [June 23, 1964], No. 26256/65. Heading B8P. A carton blank coated on one side with a thermoplastic resin such as polythene or polyvinyl chloride has wall panels 11, 12, 13, 14 hinged along fold lines 15, 16, 17, end panels 23, 25, 28, 30 hinged to the walls along fold lines 26, 31 and end sealing tabs 33, 34 hinged to the end panels along fold lines 35, 36. Wing panels 22, 24, 27, 29 are formed by 45-degree fold lines 37. The carton is assembled by folding the blank with the thermoplastic coating on the inside, so that tabs 18, 19 can be heat sealed together and folded back on the wall 14. The bottom of the carton is then formed by heat sealing the portions 42, 43 of the end sealing tab 34 together, the triangular wings 27, 29 extending outwardly at right angles to the walls 11, 13. The tab 34 is then folded to lie flat on the bottom of the carton, before the wings 27, 29 are folded back through 180 degrees and secured by heat sealing the facing thermoplastic coated portions of the broad portion 42 of the tab 34. After filling the carton with liquid, for example, the top is closed in a similar manner. To open the carton, the wing 24 is pulled through 180 degrees and incisions 50, 51 assist in tearing away a portion of the carton along score lines 52, 53, 54. By squeezing the carton near the opened corner, a score line 55 enables the hole to open out and form a pouring spout.
