Abstract

1,058,447. Automatic control of turbines. C.A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd., and J.L. DINELEY. Nov. 11, 1963 [Dec. 18, 1962j, No.47819/62. Heading G3R. The speed of a steam-turbine 2 driving an alternator 1 connected to a synchronous power system is controlled by adjustment of a steam inlet valve 6 by an actuating mechanism 5 responsive to the sum, or the larger magnitude of a speed signal, from a device 3, and an acceleration signal, from a device 4. The speed signal is stated to be derived from the output signal from a tachogenerator driven from the turbine shaft the amplitude of the signal being compared with a reference signal oscillator. It is stated that the acceleration signal can be derived from the speed signal by a differentiation circuit or by a circuit responsive to the electrical output of the alternator and the torque on the turbine shafts. It is stated that higher derivatives of the speed can be obtained and used in the control of the turbine speed.
