Abstract
1,059,750. Automatic speed control. COMPAGNIE DES COMPTEURS. Dec. 3, 1965 [Dec. 30, 1964], No.51426/65. Heading G3R. A ship's propeller is driven by turbine 9 whose speed is controlled by a potentiometer 1 which is positioned at the bridge and provides a reference voltage Vo for comparison with signal V representing the propeller-speed and derived from tachometer generator 12. The error signal is limited by circuit 21 and adjusted by potentiometer 22 before application to summing circuit 23 which receives from tachometer generator 13 a voltage representing the speed of actuating shaft 7 or device 8 which operates the steam inlet valves. The signal is then converted to A.C. by circuit 24 for amplification by amplifier 26. A voltage representing propelleracceleration is applied to summing circuit 25 for damping control, the output of generator 12 being differentiated for this purpose. The output of the amplifier 26 is converted to a D.C. signal which is applied to either magnetic powder clutch 4A or 4B to open or close the inlet valve. A remote control arrangement may be interposed between the reference potentiometer 1 and the control circuit 2 which receives a modified reference signal whose rate of change is decreased if the reference potentiometer is set for increasing speed above a predetermined value. An amplifier receives a signal corresponding to the difference between a signal from the reference potentiometer and one from a second potentiometer which is driven by one or other of two pilot motors in a direction corresponding to the polarity of the output signal of the amplifier. The second amplifier is associated with a third which is driven in the same manner and provides the modified reference voltage. The transmission ratio between one of the pilot motors and the potentiometer driven thereby is controllable.
