Abstract

1519833 Automatic control of speed GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 25 Sept 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 39331/75 Heading G3R For overspeed conditions, a steam valve in a steam turbine is controlled towards a closed position, by a non-linear command signal, so as to compensate for the non-linear relationship between valve movement and steam flow. In the embodiment, provided the turbine speed Vs is greater than the desired value A e.g. due to decrease in load, the command signal Vout is proportional to the overspeed error i.e. the difference between the actual speed and value A. In the range B, where the change in valve position has only a small effect on the steam flow, the command signal rises at a faster rate than in range D, where the valve position change has a more substantial effect on the steam flow. For larger errors, in range E, the command signal is limited. The command signal is generated Fig. 3 (not shown) by an amplifier (42) whose output is modified in range D by a further amplifier (61) and limited for measured values of turbine speed (using a voltage proportional to speed) less than the pre-set value A or in the range E.
