Abstract

1,016,681. Change-speed control. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Feb. 2, 1962 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 187/61. Heading F2D. [Also in Divisions F1 and H2] Accessories, for example a cooling fan 4 and an electrical generator 6 of a four-stroke engine, are driven from the engine crank-shaft 2 at low engine speeds and from the engine cam-shaft 3 at high engine speeds. Pulleys 10, 9 fast with the fan and generator are interconnected by a V-belt 16 driven by a pulley 11 clutchable to the crank-shaft by a clutch 13 which is disengaged automatically above a predetermined speed. The clutch 13 may be a centrifugally disengaged clutch or, as shown, the clutch may be disengaged electromagnetically under the control of a switch 14 controlled by an enginedriven governor or controlled electrically by a speedometer voltage produced in the generator 6. The fan 4 is also fast with a pulley 17 connected by a V-belt to a pulley 19 connected through an over-running clutch 18 to the camshaft 3, so that both accessories are driven from the cam-shaft when the clutch 13 is disengaged.
