Abstract
1,056,904. Metal-vapour lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. May 18, 1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 21052/65. Heading H1D. The filling of a high pressure mercury vapour lamp includes completely evaporated mercury, a halogen other than fluorine, and molybdenum, the atomic ratio of the halogen to the mercury being in the range of 0À025 to 0À85, and the molybdenum concentration in the range 5À2 x 10<SP>-7</SP> to 1À6 x 10<SP>-5</SP> gm. atoms per cm. of arc length; the filling may also include 25 torr of any of the rare gases to assist starting. The arc tube, which may be of alumina, is mounted within an outer jacket, and may include a starting electrode, a series resistor, and a heat shield. Prior to filling, the arc tube is cleaned by baking out, flushing with argon, and passing an arc between the electrodes in argon. The emission spectrum of the lamp renders it suitable for photo-copying work.
