Abstract

1,048,449. Tufting machines, tufted fabrics. CALLAWAY MILLS CO. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 22, 1963], No. 30759/64. Headings D1G and D1K. Fabric tufted on both sides is made by feeding yarn in measured lengths to hollow needles 20 and by blowing out the yarn successively on opposite sides of a backing sheet 12 to form loops of a size determined by the feed. The loops may be either of uniform height or, as shown, of different heights. The needles 20 are mounted in a hollow needle bar 22 supplied with compressed air via a pipe 50, the compressed air entering each needle via passages 42 therein. A pressure foot 16 carries spaced apart fingers 18 which overlie work-supporting fingers 14.
