Abstract

1,001,918. Sewing machines, tufted pile fabrics. G. M. PFAFF A.G. May 13, 1964 [May 17, 1963], No. 19906/64. Headings D1G and D1K. A presser foot for use with a zig zag sewing machine for producing pile fabric comprises an L-shaped sole portion, the free arm of which is provided with a pair of tongues over which the stitching can be formed, and which are of different heights. The channel between the tongues also provides a guide for a cord to be concatenated by the stitching. A shank portion 1 of a presser foot extends into an arm 2 of an L-shaped sole portion, the other arm 3 of which is formed with tongues 7 and 8 so positioned that the extreme left hand line X of zig-zag stitching passes outside tongue 7, the central line Y of the stiching passes between the tongues, and the extreme right hand line Z of the stitching passes outside tongue 8. Stitching can be formed over either of the tongues by adjusting the stitching field, the height n of tongue 7 being greater than the height m of tongue 8 for producing taller tufts. The free end of arm 3 has a tongue 6 adapted to hold down previously-produced tufting, and to serve as a guide for producing parallel lines of tufting. Either closed loops 18 or cut loops 19 may be produced. The lower tongue 8 is used for inserting a pattern 21 over existing tufting. The channel 13 between the tongues serves as a guide for a cord 16 which is concatenated by stitching, formed over both tongues, to provide reinforcement for the edge of the tufted fabric.
