Abstract

932,625. Tufting machines. SINGERCOBBLE Ltd. May 22, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1961], No. 6629/61. Class 112. Tufted fabrics are made by selectively raising the looper hooks to higher positions for forming shorter loops, in accordance with a desired pattern. The embodiments show arrangements for producing cut pile. In Fig. 1, each looper hook 3 is pivoted to a looper bar 1 about a horizontal pin 2, and is normally held against bar 1 by a tension-spring 7. In Fig. 2, each looper hook 11 is vertically slidable in a slot provided in the looper bar 12, and is biased to the lowered position by a leaf-spring 13. By increasing the tension of the yarn 8 sufficiently to overcome the springs 7, 13, the respective loopers 3, 11 may be selectively raised for producing shorter tufts. In Fig. 3, the lifting of a looper 16 is positively determined by the angular position of a cam 17 adapted to oscillate a lever 18 for lifting a pin 19 against the bias of a spring 20, to raise the looper holder 21. The latter is also provided with guide pins 22.
