Abstract

1369887 Tufting machine EDGAR PICKERING (BLACKBURN) Ltd 23 March 1973 [13 April 1972] 17128/72 Addition to 1318222 Heading D1G A tufting machine, including mechanism (not disclosed) for feeding yarns 2 at a higher or lower speed to selected needle 1 under pattern control to produce high or low tufts, has oscillating looper hooks each having spaced upper and lower bills 20, 21 facing in a direction opposite to that of the travel of the backing cloth 3, the upper bill 20 only entering the loop just formed by a needle 1, the upper bill being hook shaped and is provided with a lower surface 11, adjacent the tip, along which the loops travel towards a slot between the two bills, loops under tension due to low speed feed being drawn through the slot to produce low pile loops while loops associated with high speed feed and hence not under tension move past the slot on to the lower bill 21 to produce high pile loops, knives 9 and 10 being provided to sever the tuft loops. The loopers may be made of two parts secured together.
