Abstract

1,021,773. Sewing, pile fabrics. SINGER CO. Dec. 7,1964 [Dec. 9, 1963], No.49633/64. Headings D1G and D1K. A stitched seam comprises a single thread 30 formed into a succession of loops each of which projects through the workpiece from one side thereof, the loops being alternately tufting loops 33 and working loops 34, each tufting loop being passed through the succeeding locking loop to extend therebeyond to a distance substantially greater than the distance between said locking loop and the succeeding tufting loop, each locking loop being set into the workpiece while the tufting loop passed therethrough is maintained extended, and each tufting loop being free of concatenation with any succeeding tufting loop. As shown, each locking loop is twisted through half a turn. In a modification the locking loop is not twisted. The tufting loops may be either uncut or cut. Tufted fabric is produced by forming a plurality of parallel seams in a work piece.
