825,582. Patterned tufted fabrics; feeding yarns in warp form. MOHASCO INDUSTRIES Inc. May 3. 1957, No. 14189/57. Classes 142(1) and 142(4) [Also in Group VII] In a pile fabric, produced in a multipleneedle machine, a patterned effect is achieved by varying the height of individual tufts, those of reduced height being produced by reducing the length of the yarn fed to the needle 23 so that as the needle descends through the base fabric to insert a tuft of maximum height yarn is withdrawn from the tuft previously formed, to reduce the height of the latter. The warp of yarns y is fed to the machine by being enmeshed between two series of pattern elements 31, 43, each carried on oppositely disposed endless chains 32, 44. The chains advance in step to release, for each needle cycle, increments of yarn formed by the deviated lengths of yarn between two adjacent elements 43. The height of the elements vary, across the warp and between each other, according to the desired pattern to vary the lengths of yarn fed off at each needle cycle.
