522,432. Upholstery stuffing - apparatus; sewing machines. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 8, 1938, No. 35811. Convention-date, April 9, 1938. [Class 52 (iv)] [Also in Group VII] In a machine for producing pleated upholstery by passing spaced rows of stitching through a cover fabric, a padding layer and a foundation sheet, the padding and superposed cover fabric are fed by a conveyer towards the sewing heads 23 and the foundation sheeting is applied to the underside between the end of the conveyer and the sewing mechanism. The cover fabric is in separate pieces 54 manually placed on the padding 39, and the conveyer 25, which is preferably slatted, takes the material to a driven roll 42 with a superposed pressure-roll 44 at which point the foundation sheet 50 is led in and drawn past the needles by a driven roll 45 cooperating with spaced pressure-discs 47 and a pressure-roll 46. A supplementary supply of padding 40 enables the machine to operate while the main supply is replenished.
