1,046,738. Plastics valve bags. SOCIETA EDISON. June 10, 1963 [June 19, 1962], No. 23038/63. Heading B8K. A valve bag is formed from a plastics tube by folding inwardly at each end a pair of flaps 2, 3, 4, 5 (Fig. 2, not shown), each of which is then welded to the base of the other, and then adding corner welds 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, 12, 12<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 3, not shown). The valve is formed by a slit 5<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 3) in the underlying flap 5 reached through the space between the two flaps 4, 5 to which access is provided by cutting away the end portion of the outer flap 4. A weld 10 between the flaps 4, 5 may define the depth of the valve channel. As shown, the flaps 2, 3, 4, 5, and the adjacent portions of the tube 1, are opened out to the diamond form of Fig. 3 before the welds 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, 12, 12<SP>1</SP> are made, and the ears 13. 13<SP>111</SP> are cut away after the welds 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, 12, 12<SP>1</SP> have been made. A valve may be provided at each end of the bag, or two valves may be arranged at one end of the bag.
