Abstract

1286846 Valved block bags INDUSTRIELE ONDERNEMING WAVIN NV 25 Aug 1969 [26 Aug 1968 10 Oct 1968] 42173/69 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A filling valve is provided in a block bag 1 by ensuring that a first corner flap 5 is not sealed to bottom flaps 6, 6<SP>1</SP>. This is achieved by sliding a separator 13 over the flap 5 prior to folding the flaps 6, 6<SP>1</SP> inwardly and sealing with a sealing member 14. The separator 13 extends under a second corner flap 5<SP>1</SP> so that this flap becomes sealed to the flaps 6, 6<SP>1</SP>. The separator 13 and sealing member 14 may be hinged together and provided with profiled wires or bars 14a (13a, Figs. 4, 13) to produce a labyrinth of spot welds 16-18. The corner flap 5 may be stretched and provided with superficial incisions (21, Figs. 2, 3, 8, 9) so that air escape channels are formed when the bag is filled. The flaps 5, 5<SP>1</SP> may be of equal length (Figs. 10, 12) or flap 5 may be longer than flap 5<SP>1</SP> The flaps 5, 5<SP>1</SP> may have bevelled inner edges 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. Flap 5 may be incised along or have a triangular portion (44, Fig. 10; 46, Fig. 12) removed from its original outer longitudinal edge. The bag may be formed from lay-flat polythene tubing (Figs. 8, 9).
