Abstract

920,516. Paper and like bags; packaging. CELLOPLAST A.B. April 6, 1960 [April 11, 1959], No. 12270/60. Classes 94(1) and 94(2). A tubing for providing packaging units is initially in flattened form and has at least one flat face, Figs. 1 and 2, that is provided with one or more longitudinally extending pleats 5, there being spaced transverse slits 7 extending over the whole width of the pleats so that the pleats 5 are wholly cut across and such that the packaging units are connected with each other only at the longitudinal edges 8 of the tubing there being a transverse seal 6 adjacent each slit 7. In Fig. 4 both flat faces are pleated as at 9, 10 and the transverse slits again extend across both faces but not the edges 11. Before the packaging units are separated, the mouth of each unit, as defined by the slit 7 is opened by mechanical grasping members or by directing a stream of air at the slit, the merchandise being then inserted via the resulting mouth. The filled bags are then torn from the tubing, along perforations lines and sealed in a suitable way. The transverse seals 6 may be formed by heat sealing or by the use of adhesive.
