Abstract

1308141 Carrier Bags A S SMITH and E A BAILEY 22 May 1970 [25 Feb 1969] 9983/69 Heading A4G [Also in Division B8] A carrier bag for use with bagging apparatus (see Division B8) has a preformed finger-hold aperture, 77, in the mouth margin of one panel 68 and spaced holes 79 in the mouth margin of the other panel (69), the material between the holes 79 being rupturable to produce a second fingerhold aperture. The mouth margins each comprise two layers 73, 74 and 75, 76, the spaced holes 79 being provided in one layer 76 of the mouth margin of panels (69) and a finger-hold aperture 78 being provided in the other layer 75. The material between the holes 79 is weakened by a medial slit 80 and perforations (81). One side margin of the bag is doubled and provided with holes 82 to cooperate with side rods in the apparatus. A notch 83 is provided at the top of panel 68 to facilitate opening of the bag by an air jet. Separate marginreinforcing strips, which are respectively apertured and holed and, which may be of a different material to that of the bag, may be fused to the bag. An added strip containing the holes 79 may be situated between the plies of the bag or attached to the bag in register with a finger-hold aperture. The panels 68, (69) may be of different lengths, as shown, or may be of the same length. The bag has a bottom gusset. The bag may be made of plastics material, paper, or a combined plastics and paper material.
