Abstract

1280224 Plastics bags with handles BRITISH VISQUEEN Ltd 31 March 1970 [28 April 1969] 21581/69 Heading B8K A plastics bag has a front wall 1 and a back wall 2 which are extended beyond a seam 7 closing an end of the bag, the extensions 4 and 5, the inner edges of which are included in the seam 7, having greater total thickness than each wall and including a cut-out carrying handle 10. In one arrangement the extensions 4 and 5 are formed from a portion of film joining the ends of the two walls 4, 5 inwardly folded to form a gusset, the re-entrant fold 6 of which is joined into the seam 7. In an alternative arrangement the greater total thickness of each extension may be provided by a band of thickening in the film from which the bag is made. The side edges 3 of the bag and the side edges 9 of the layers of film in each extension 4, 5 are joined together by heat seals. The other end 8 of the bag is closed by heat sealing after the bag has been filled. The bags are formed in a continuous process from a doubled web of plastics film.
