Abstract

1,045,865. Opposed-piston I.C. engines I.C. engine valve gear. USTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL. May 15, 1964 [May 18, 1963], No. 20318/64. Heading F1B. In a two-stroke opposed-piston carburetter or compression-ignition I.C. engine the piston motion is transmitted to the crankshaft through rocker arms 9, 10 which are arranged to apply pressure to gas within working spaces formed by the outer ends of the cylinder and slideways 19, 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), which engage the rocker arm sides. Lattice slide valves 25, driven by a pivoted arm 26 from the crankshaft, open suction channels 23 and close delivery channels 24 during the whole inward stroke of the pistons 4, 5. Channels 23 are closed and channels 24 opened as the pistons move apart. Exhaust gas passes out through ports 6 which open before inlet ports 3. The pistons 4, 5 and rocker arm 9, 10 compress inlet gas in the working space which is delivered through channel 30 to the inlet ports 3.
