Abstract
1,040,257. Image converter tubes. W. HEIMANN, [trading as FORSCHUNGSLABORATORIUM PROF. DR.-ING. WALTER HEIMANN]. May 15, 1964 [May 28, 1963], No. 20376/64. Heading H1D. An electron-optical image intensifier comprises at least two stages, the size of the image being reduced in each stage. As shown, an intensifier comprises an initial photo-cathode K 1 , which may be associated with a luminescent layer for X-ray quantum intensification, a coupling foil K 2 of Al 2 O 3 having a central active portion coated on one side with Al, and on the other aide with KCl, and a luminescent output screen L 2 . Each stage of the intensifier comprises three accelerating electrodes, the potentials of which are adjustable to vary the image reduction per stage. The utilized area of K 2 is only a fraction of the area of K 2 which is imaged in stage II, to reduce lens errors to a minimum. The luminescent screen L 2 may be replaced by a secondary-emissive foil forming the storage target of a television camera tube.
