Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A silencer for a ventilating fan 142 comprises a box structure 110 having an inlet 116 and an outlet 119 on which the fan is mounted, a baffle 129 covered on its side facing the outlet with sound absorbing material, and sound absorbing material 124 on the sides and bottom of the box 110. The inlet 116 is formed by a fitting 125 having flow adjusting vanes 126 and the top of the box 110 is formed by a flanged plate 118 which is prevented from vibrating by a layer 123 of material such as sponge rubber. The device is mounted in an opening in a roof 117 by a flanged member 135. In a modification, Fig. 5, (not shown) the inlet and outlet 216, 219, are situated to one side of the box and the air is diverted around the end of the elongated baffle 229. In a further modification the baffle is omitted and the inlet and outlet are not in line. Sound absorbing material may be provided on the lower surface of baffle 129.
