Abstract
1,037,287. Generating combustion products under pressure. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. June 5, 1963 [June 9, 1962], No. 22278/63. Heading F1L. A combustion gas generator comprises tubular combustion chambers 8, 18, 25 in flow series surrounded by gas-tight chambers 4, 5. Chamber 8 is of the oscillating column type, supplied with fuel and air through inlets 13, 14 respectively. Combustion gas pulses are discharged through nozzle 10 into diverging duct 16 leading to combustion chamber 18 to ignite a mixture of fuel supplied through injectors 21 and compressed air induced through inlet 15 from chamber 4. Combustion occurs in chamber 18 without affecting the combustion frequency in chamber 8. Resulting gas pulses are discharged through nozzle 19 into a similar combustion chamber 25 receiving fuel and additional oxygen through inlets 28, 29 respectively. Discharge nozzle 27 may be of non- circular section. The pulse frequency is determined by the size of combustion chamber 8 and the pressures at which fuel and combustion supporting medium are supplied thereto. Relative dimensions of the combustion chambers are given. A readily ionisable substance, such as potassium, may be injected into one of the combustion chambers for electrical power generation purposes.
