Abstract
699,471. Jet propulsion plant. SOC. D'ETUDE DE LA PROPULSION PAR REACTION. March 30, 1951 [May 13, 1950], No. 7478/51. Class 110(iii) A rocket, using non-hypergolic fuels which are supplied to the combustion chamber by pumps driven by a turbine, has an ignition chamber fed with hypergolic fuels which. is connected at one end through a passage of reduced cross-section to the combustion chamber and at its other end with the inlet to the turbine. The rocket combustion chamber 1 is connected through a neck 2 to a ignition chamber 3. A non-hypergolic combination of fuels is injected into the combustion chamber 1 through the openings 4, 5. These fuels are ignited by combustion gases generated in the ignition chamber 3 by the combustion of hypergolic fuels injected through the openings 6, 7. The chamber 3 is connected to the inlet of the turbine through a passage 8 having a restricted discharge opening. After starting, the supply of the hypergolic fuels is cut off and a part of the gases generated in the chamber 1 fed to the turbine through the passage 2, chamber 3 and passage 8. A liquid such as water may be injected into the gases flowing through the passage 8 to the turbine.
