Abstract

1,036,821. Rolling. UNITED ENGINEERING & FOUNDRY CO. May 24, 1963 [June 1, 1962], No. 21183/62. Heading B3M. A rolling mill includes at least one roll that is movable into and out of a roll changing position, the roll being positioned and supported in a predetermined manner in its roll changing position. In the normal position for rolling, as shown in the right-hand half of Fig. 2, the chock 16 of a roll 14 abuts a face 25 of a supporting beam 21, the screwdown 20 of the mill abutting the upper surface of the beam. A hydraulic balancing cylinder urges an arm 29 upwardly to force the chock against the beam 21. For removing the upper roll assembly from the stand the mill screw is raised and arms 29 raise the chocks by means of hooks 32 and 33. The chocks are raised in this manner until levers 39 on the arms 29 reach abutments 43 on the housing. Each lever 39 is normally in the position shown on the right, with its short arms abutting the beam 21 at 42, but, on reaching an abutment 43, is pivoted such that the beam 21 is lifted clear of the chock 16 and then the hooks 33 are lifted clear of the hooks 32. The roll assembly is then in the position shown to the left of the Figure in which the roll chock is supported by flanges 24 of the beam 21 and can be slid transversely from the roll stand.
