Abstract

1,036,637. Juice extracting. O. GUNKEL. July 26, 1963, No. 29729/63. Heading A4C. [Also in Division B8] In a fruit press, material to be de-juiced is fed step-wise beneath successive pressers C. D, E, F, by an endless conveyer carrying press cloths 8, means being provided to prevent the material to be pressed from passing over the sides of the conveyer, and juice lead-off means being arranged beneath the conveyer in the region of the pressers. The conveying device (Figs. 1, 3, not shown) comprises a pair of endless chains 2 which between them carry perforated plates 5 to which are fastened the press cloths 8 having foldable marginal portions 10 stiffened by rods 11. A predetermined quantity of fruit is fed in at Station A to the press cloth 8 which is then advanced to station B at which the marginal portions 10 are folded over the fruit. The fruit then passes successively beneath the pressers C-F, which may apply the same or increasing pressures, and cooperated with pressing tables beneath the conveyer belt to extract fruit juice which passes through the perforations 6 in the plate 5 and into separate receptacles. The flaps 11 are opened at station G and pulp is removed by a brush roller 15 prior to passing of the lower run 2<SP>1</SP> through a washing chamber 16 and a drying chamber 17. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) two or more conveyer belts are arranged one above the other and the upper runs are supported by springs from the conveyer chains 2. In a further embodiment (Figs. 6, 8, not shown) the endless conveyer 23 comprises transverse bars 41 supporting a continuous cloth 32 and the fruit is laterally guided on the belt 23 by bars 22 separated by slots 33 and carried by the presser plunger 21. These lateral bars 22 are covered by a continuous cloth belt 31 which may be moved intermittently and which may be cleared of pulp by a dimpled roller 29 and an air nozzle 37. The conveyer belt 23 is washed by a spray 50 (Fig. 8, not shown) and its associated cloth 32 is cleared of residual pulp 45 by a rotary brush 46 and an air spray 47, the bulk of the pulp 44 falling freely from the end of the upper run.
