Abstract
915,857. Endless belt conveyers. CONTINENTAL CARBON CO. Jan. 13, 1961, No. 1590/61. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] A conveyer comprises a pair of superposed and convergent flat conveyer belts 20 and 22 and a row of idle-rollers 33 on each side of the space between the belts and at right-angles to their surfaces, such that the rollers contact the sides of the objects conveyed; the rollers each have the same diameter but decrease in length toward the convergent ends of the conveyer belts. The conveyer belts are supported by a succession of rolls such as 10 and 12 mounted on the superposed vertically-adjustable shafts 6 and 8, respectively, which are carried by the frame 2 and which are power-driven. The idle rollers 33 are mounted in the channel members 30 at the inner ends of rods 28 in holders 26; such channel members may number four on each side of the conveyer and each may carry twenty-one rollers. The channels, shafts 32, and rollers 33 taper downwardly in height from the inlet to the outlet end of the conveyer to give compression to the objects conveyed. Another embodiment comprises an endless conveyer belt trained round the rollers 33, the belt being slit at regular intervals along its upper edge to enable it to fold back over the rollers at the narrow discharge end and return between the bottom of the channel and the rollers.
