Abstract

1,033,954. Cooling and lubricating systems. AUTO UNION G.m.b.H. April 11, 1963 [April 12, 1962], No. 14583/63. Heading F1B. A centrifugal water pump 16 and a lubricating oil pump 13 are formed as a unit, the oil pump being driven from the water pump drive shaft 8 through reduction gearing 12. The oil pump housing 1 is connected to the water pump housing at 2 and the unit is bolted to a flat sealing face 4 on the cylinder head. The wall 24 of the water pump outlet chamber forms part of the wall of the oil pump inlet flange 28 whereby the oil is quickly heated when the engine starts from cold. The shaft 8, which carries a driving pulley 11, is mounted in ball bearings. 9 and a bearing bush 10 which projects from housing 1 to centre it on housing 3. Water leaking part the pump packing 22 is collected in a chamber 21 connected to atmosphere and sealed from the bush 10 by a packing 19. In a modification, Fig. 2, the drive shaft is divided into two parts 37, 33, connected by a tongue 36 and the bearing bush 34 is lubricated by a passage 38 leading to the oil pump inlet.
