Abstract
1311983 Gas turbine plant BENNES MARREL 6 Aug 1970 [14 Aug 1969] 37918/70 Heading F1G A gas turbine engine has a triangular shaped gear-box 12 secured by screws 15 to the front of the gas generator casing 13 to provide a speed reduction of 20:1 between an input shaft 29 connected to the end 30 of the gas generator shaft and an output shaft 20 connected to drive a pair of rotary heat exchangers 10 disposed on opposite sides of the engine axis. The latter drive is via worm 40 and wheel 41, transverse shafts 42 and pinions 43 engaging teeth 44 on the heat exchangers 10, universal joints 36, 39 etc. being provided where necessary. A pulley (19) Fig. 5 (not shown) for driving an electric generator is provided on the forward end of shaft 20. The gear-box 12 also supports an electric starter 16 having an output shaft 17, a hydraulic regulator 21, a shaft 22 driving two oil pumps (23), 25 and a fuel pump 26, and a shaft 28 driving a cooling fan 27. The compressor (6) Fig. 1 (not shown) of the gas generator is of radial flow type and the engine includes a power turbine (9) driving a shaft (8).
