Abstract

[Also in Divisions F4 and H5] An anti-drip device for thermal storage water heaters of the free outlet or displacement type comprises a sleeve 7, closed at its upper end, slidably and freely mounted on the inlet pipe 9, and rigidly connected by a cross member 12 to a tube 10, having at its lower end an extension 11 of smaller diameter, seated on the flange 9 of the outlet pipe 8 of substantially the same height as the inlet pipe 6. Cold water entering through the pipe 6 impinges on the closed end of sleeve 7 before passing to the lower regions of the container 1, and lifts the tube 10 off the outlet pipe, permitting the outflow of heated water. When the inlet valve is closed, the tube 10, guided on to the flange 9 by the extension 11, increases the height of the outlet pipe 8 to prevent drip when the water level rises owing to the expansion of the water when heated.
