The outermost layer of steel wires 3 of each strand 1 is provided with a zinc coating, the inner steel wires4, 5, 6 being uncoated. The rope may have a hemp core 2 surrounded by inner strands of steel wires (not shown). Where inner strands of steel wires are present, the steel-wires of the outermost layer of each such strand may have a zinc coating.
