Abstract

877,963. Drawing; altering physical structure. BRITISH ROPES Ltd. Feb. 5, 1960 [Jan. 16, 1959], No. 1707/59. Addition to 794,411. Class 83 (4). In a modification or improvement of the method of forming a steel wire strand as disclosed in the parent Specification an outer layer of wires of opposite lay are wound around the steel wire strand and the strand so formed is drawn through a die or other reducing means to reduce its diameter by deforming the wires of the outer lay into closer contact with each other. During the drawing operation back tension is applied to the centre strand and to the outer wires. A machine for carrying out the method comprises a lay plate 2, a split die 3 and a drawing die 4.
