Abstract

976,572. Drawing wire. STEEL CORDS Ltd. Dec. 8, 1961 [Dec. 9, 1960], No. 42414/60. Heading B3P. [Also in Division D1] A wire strand is made by drawing a plurality of wires 38, 39, 40 simultaneously through a succession of draw plates 22, 23, 47, 24, bringing the drawn wires together in side-by-side relationship, for example by a die-plate 42, and collecting them on a flyer-fed bobbin 44. As shown, there are six driven stepped drawing blocks 1 to 6 comprising steps 7 to 21, the blocks 1 to 6 being arranged in pairs. The draw plates 22, 23, 24 between the pairs of blocks have groups 25 to 37 of dies, each group containing three similar dies. The drawing blocks 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, are driven at angular velocities that increase in the order they are contacted by the wires. A capstan roller 48 feeds the flyer fed bobbin 44.
