Abstract

1363974 Yarn feed DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORP 5 July 1972 [6 July 1971] 31513/72 Heading D1G In a tufting machine where each yarn is fed by a separate advancing device 36, 34, these devices are arranged in rows 34 between which rows are disposed yarn guides 50, 52 leading yarns to and from the advancing devices. The guides comprise tubes each accommodating one yarn. Each advancing device comprises a step motor driving a roller 34, the yarn passing (Fig. 4 not shown) between the roller 34 and a spring biassed nip roller 36. The motors are mounted in a panel 30 comprising two aluminium or stainless steel plates (60, 62 Fig. 3 not shown) mounted face to face. The faces are grooved to provide U shaped channels 64 within the panel, the channels receiving cooling fluid (water) from manifolds 68, 72, to cool the motors. The stop motors are controlled by a patterning device to produce long or short tufts.
